A novel dual ionization modality source for infrared laser ablation post-ionization mass spectrometry imaging to study fungicide metabolism and transport

We present a novel probe design for ambient laser-based mass spectrometry imaging combining electrospray ionization (ESI) and atmospheric pressure chemical (APCI) in single probe, compatible with commercial laser ablation (LAESI) instrument. Here we describe the considerations features, as well an in-house developed data processing routine designed to extract accurate from post-ionization experiments. characterize performance both APCI ESI mode on selection of compounds show improved pixel-to-pixel repeatability LA-APCI compared LAESI. apply dual time series experiment monitor agrochemicals tomato plants. investigate translocation fungicide isotianil one its metabolites, anthranilonitrile, by over period two weeks after application leaf surface. LA-APCI-MSI shows anthranilonitrile treated leaves towards non-treated leaves. In summary, demonstrate that is valuable addition toolbox, particular advantages experiments across variety compounds.
